The Dragon's Gift: The Sacred Arts of Bhutan
Edited by Terese Bartholomew and John Johnston, this volume is the catalogue for the major exhibition opening on February 23 (til May 23, 2008) at the Honolulu Academy of Arts, featuring more than one hundred works of Buddhist art of Bhutan, most of which are published here for the first time.
The Honolulu Academy of Arts exhibition team spent more than three years visiting remote monasteries finding these masterpieces. Contributors to the catalogue include Bhutanese experts who gave indigenous perspective on the arts along with leading Western scholars who have been working on Bhutanese art and history. The magnificent photography, essays and extensive catalogue entries make this volume an indispensable book on Bhutan. Bonus: The book also includes a DVD of rare Cham dances that Core of Culture (a dance preservation organization) spent three years filming across Bhutan.
